Do you believe in Spirits/Ghost? Today’s society it’s very popular to believe in the supernatural. A quick look through television programming and we see many shows such as Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, Dead Files just to name a few of the paranormal television programs.
As Christians do we believe in the spiritual world and paranormal? In the King James Version of the Bible, the word “ghost” appears 108 times. However, the word is never used in the sense of a returning spirit of someone who has died. Ghost is used three different ways, first it is used as giving up the ghost or other words dying, it’s used as the Title “The Holy Ghost”, and it’s used in the trinity. There are no ghosts or spirits of people who have lived on this earth.
So are there Spirits the rome this earth? The answer is yes! There are both Good and Evil spirits on the earth according to the Bible. These are angels and fallen angels. They are not earthly beings but Heavenly beings. In Genesis 28:13, we find a vision from Jacob. “He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” We see the Good Spiritual Beings (Angels) coming and departing earth.
What about the other spirits? The Bible tells us that demons are fallen angels who joined Satan in his rebellion against God and who were defeated and cast out of heaven along with Satan. In Revelation 12:7-9 we find, “And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” Satan and his Demons are roming freely on earth. We need to be very cautious about any spiritual contact. In 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 says, “No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.” Please remember and note that apparitions are not of souls that have passed. We would not be seeing the soul of someone who has died, rather a fake and deceitful manifestation of them. Not only Satan, but his demons disguise themselves as Angels. Don’t be deceived! In 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
The Bible very strictly warns us of trying to connect with the dead through mediums or other spiritual outlets (Leviticus 19:31, ‘Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” and also in Isaiah 8:19, “When they say to you, “Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?” These are false teachings, and they go against God’s true word.
Finally, Interest in the paranormal is becoming increasingly common. However, what you see in movies or on TV isn’t an accurate portrayal of what these spirits may be. While angels and demons roam our earth, God is not going to allow a deceased loved one to come back into this world. There is only one way to see and talk to your departed loved ones. That is in the hereafter life in Heaven. Are you ready to meet them? If not, you can be. Take a moment right now and ask Jesus to forgive your sins. In John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Just think of the family reunion that you will have in Heaven.
