Today I would like to talk about Spiritual Warfare. As Christians we fight a battle everyday with our enemy, the devil. As we try to live for God, Satan does everything in his power to destroy us. In 1 Peter 5:8 it says, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” In other words the Devil is just waiting for the right moment to attack you. We find in Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Question – Are you ready to go to War? Have you prepared yourself? If you were going into a battle field today, you wouldn’t walk in without preparing for it. Maybe some attack weapons and some body armor would be a great benefit. Have you prepared for a spiritual Battle? In Ephesian 6:10-11 Paul tells us to, “ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
Also in Ephesian 6:13 we find, “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.” The key is to take up the FULL Armor of God. So we need all the armor to be effective in defeating the devil. Also in the same verse it says, ”having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, Also in Ephesian 6:15 – 17 we find, “and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
The Armor of God…
Truth – The Belt of truth holds every piece of the armor together. This truth is the Bible. Having the moral courage to stand up for what is right. Righteousness – The breastplate of Righteousness which protects our most vital and vulnerable places. Having an upright heart, morally erect, having the righteous of principles and conduct. Faith – The Shield of faith covering most of the body. It’s the Christian Faith we stand and believe in. Also personal faith in Christ to save and deliver. It protects you from the evil flaming arrows. Knowledge – The Helmet of Salvation protects the head. Keeps us from believing the enemy’s lies. Keeps our salvation in the forefront of our minds. The Word – The sword of the spirit is the word of God. The only effective weapon is the truth of the Bible. Learn the scriptures. Peace – The shoe of peace that prepares you to face the enemy with firm and stable footing that comes from the gospel
The final line of support in this Spiritual warfare is communication. Today when our military attacks an enemy, Some of the first targets is communication. This is also true for our spiritual enemy, the devil. The first thing he wants to do is to stop communications or our prayers to God. If you can’t get direction or reinforcements from above… It make Satan’s job a whole lot easier. In Ephesian 6:15 Paul says, “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints”
In conclusion, Let us prepare for warfare. Remember this is a war, and even if we lose a battle Christ will lift us back up. Let me ask you… Are you ready for war? Are you winning the war or losing it? If you need help to win the war, Why not take a moment, right Now, to ask Jesus for reinforcements. Jesus is standing by and is only a prayer away.
