The Great Distractor

In our world today there are a lot of distractions. It seems like any time we try to accomplish something we can get easily distracted. Unless you are very disciplined we can lose our focus. A distraction is simply defined as “a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.” These distractions can cause great damage or loss. Just think about someone driving and texting. This distraction has caused both property damage and loss of life.

Today I would like to talk about “distractions” in your spiritual life. The first thing we need to do is to recognize these distractions. Our spiritual lives are being attacked daily. When we are at our weakest time of the day, the attacks seem to be the strongest. For example the time right before we go to sleep. Does a little doubt, condemnation or maybe guilty thoughts come to you. You are being attacked! We need to recognize the attack.

The Bible tells us we are in a spiritual battle. Ephesians 6:12 says “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” We are in a war against the rulers of darkness or the devil and evil spirits.

The easiest way for us to be attacked is through our thoughts. The hardest thing for us to control as Christians is our mind. We are taught in the Bible that our sinful thoughts are the same as doing the sin. We find an example of this in Matthew 5:28 where Jesus was talking about adultery “but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Our mind is where Satan and his followers can easily attack you. Does Satan still remind you of sins from your past? I was struggling and praying about this for many years. For over 25 years I carried a sin until one day God revealed to me that it was forgiven and forgotten by Him a long time ago. Only ones that remember it are myself and Satan. Satan had been attacking me with this for years.  It is no longer a weapon he can use to attack me.

Satan is the great distractor.. His mission is to destroy your faith in any way possible. Distraction, lies and deceit are some of his weapons he uses. In 1 Peter 5:8 tells us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Just be aware of these attacks. Satan is not going to stop these attacks but we can defend ourselves from the damage. Here are three things to help your defense.

1. Pray – 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and 1 Thessalonians 5:16 – 17 we find this, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing”

2. Read – We need to read God’s word to be strong.  2 Timothy 3:16 – 17 tells us, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” and Proverbs 30:5 we find this, “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.”

3. Confess –  We need to confess our struggles to God and other Christians.  This way we can pray for each other.  James 5:16 says, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”

If you are struggling with your thoughts and maybe even losing some battles, Remember the war is not over. I’ve read the end of the book and everything is good. If Satan has defeated you, It’s time to take action. There’s no better time than the present. It’s time to pray. Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart.  Now confess this to a brother or sister in Christ.

I pray that God will truly Help and Bless you. If you would like for me to pray with you, please email or text me. May God Bless and Keep!
