The Door…

This week, I was reminiscing about my childhood and the old screen door on the front of our house.  I can’t remember how many times I was yelled at to close the screen door.  My parents would even give me a reason to close it. You probably remember some of the reasons and here’s a few.  Shut the door… so the flies don’t come in, or depending on the season, are you trying to cool or heat the neighborhood? How about, do you think we live in a barn? I replied once, you call my room a pigsty… don’t you, and quickly learned my lesson about talking back. I know my kids have heard these and probably your kids have too.

Today I would like to talk a little about another door. I think all us know what a door is. We use them every day. A door simply put, is a movable, usually solid, barrier for opening and closing an entranceway.

I would like to speak about a spiritual door. What is this spiritual door anyway? Taking in the above definition, it’s a movable barrier for opening and closing an entranceway to fellowship and life with God.  Jesus said this in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” We now know what a spiritual door is… Jesus is the door.

What does Jesus mean when he said, “I’m the door”?  Through Jesus we have a way to have fellowship with God the Father.  John 14:6 says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” When we pray and ask for forgiveness, it’s through Jesus we receive our salvation.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with me

It’s up to you to open the door of salvation. Jesus tells us in Revelations 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Have you heard Jesus knocking?  Have you opened the door? Jesus is waiting for you to open your door. If you invite Him in, He will come into to your heart and soul and will “sup” (fellowship) with you.

So, here’s the Final Question, how’s your relationship with God? Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him. Remember, none of us is guaranteed another second on this earth. That door to salvation is closing. Please just take a moment right now and answer the knocking on the door and invite Jesus Christ Our Savior into your heart.

The best part is salvation is a gift from God. It’s easy and free. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
