Giving…

Magnificent Promises

This week I would like to talk a little about giving.  That is giving to God.  When we think about giving to God or the Church, most of us think about the Sunday offering. From a very early age we have been taught to give 10% of our money to God. This is based on the offering made by Abraham in Genesis chapter 14:20, “And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” He gave him a tenth of all.

A common definition of tithes is giving 10% of your income, but in contrast an offering is what you give in addition and above your tithes.

But today I want to talk about an offering of a different type. Think about this, do you really think God needs your money? No, after all He already has all the riches He wants. This is a discipline teaching us to put God first in all things.

There is one thing that God does not have… and only you can give it to Him… That’s your time! It’s the most valuable thing we possess.  So, how much time do you give to God? I would like to propose that you give God 10% of your time.  After all, He is there for you 24/7, 365 days a year.

Every week God gives us 168 hours to spend. You can choose any way you want to spend this time. Think about this, if you were to give God 10% of your time a week, that would amount to 16.8 hours. If you go to church on Sunday and Wednesday that still leaves about 13 hours to spend.  If you spend one hour each day in prayer, bible reading & devotions, that still leaves about 6 hours a week to spend.

Some suggestions on spending the rest of your time… Maybe devote some time to teaching your children the Bible, Praying, studying the Bible, witnessing, or even helping out at church.  You can multi-task some of these things.  Example… the next time you’re stuck in a traffic jam, it may be a good time to pray.

I know in our busy life it’s hard to find time.  Time is more precious than gold, diamonds or anything on this earth.  It’s one of the things we can give God that He doesn’t have.  God needs Nothing, but desires fellowship with you.

Time is of great value. This is true for God and your family.  Once you have spent a second of time it’s gone forever.

So, here’s the question… How much time do you give to God? I know we are busy living our lives and it’s hard to find any extra time. How much time do we waste?  In James 4:14 tells us, “…For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

If you don’t think it’s possible right now, to give 10% of your time a week to God, I challenge you to offer God at least 10% or more time than you are giving Him now.  If you are giving God 3 hours a week, spend another 30 minutes with Him. Then Next month another 10%. Remember, once time is spent, you can never regain it back again.

The choice is yours… you can give God more time or you can give it to the world. There’s coming a day when each of us will stand in front of God and account for our life on earth. I don’t think the excuse “I just didn’t have time” will help you!  What will help you is a relationship with God.

So, how’s your relationship with God?  If you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. It’s time to renew and there’s no better time than the present to renew your relationship with God.  None of us is guaranteed another second on this earth.

Please just take a moment now, dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
