Gifts…

The Christmas excitement is over, our children have grown tired of most of those expensive Christmas gifts. I was thinking about all those discarded Christmas gifts. We put in so much effort and thought in buying our loved ones those gifts. Trying to find that special gift is not only frustrating, but it can also be very time consuming. You know, to find that one special gift they will love, cherish and use. I then started to think about all the gifts God gives us.

Have you ever thought about the Gifts the God has given you?  The first one that comes to mind is our salvation.  This was a very expensive gift, it cost the life of His son Jesus on the cross. Roman 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The Gift of eternal life through the Lord Jesus.  What a gift!

But that’s not the only gift God gives us. In Romans 12:6-8 says, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” This is some of the gifts that God gives. Rest assured that there are many, many more.

Every one of us has received a gift from God. 1 Peter 4:10 says, “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” Notice it says each one… it doesn’t say some of us.

I can hear it now… But brother Bob, I can’t teach, preach, minister or speak in public. These are the words Satan uses to defeat us, I can’t, I can’t, I can’t. Remember, we are in a Spiritual war, and we lose a battle when we say I can’t. Satan will give you a thousand reasons you can’t do something. Just remember that ALL things are possible through God. God doesn’t call anyone that’s not able to do what He has asked you to do. God never calls anyone to failure. Please don’t let Satan defeat you.

Please don’t misunderstand me… Not everyone is called to be a preacher.  The word minister in the above scripture means “to serve.” Jesus said this about His ministry on this earth, He came to serve, and not to be served.

Okay Then just what am I able to do?  There are so many things that anyone can do. There are no excuses not to do them. I heard people say, I’m too old or maybe too young, my health is bad, I don’t have the time, and I can’t speak in front of others.

My Friends, I think everyone can do these. Pray for the sick and needy, or how about sending a greeting card, or making a phone call to encourage someone. Maybe teach Sunday School for elementary students. There are many things you can help with and minister or serve others. If you are struggling with this, pray and ask God to show you opportunities to serve.

Please remember, there is coming a time when we will stand before God and account for what we have done in this lifetime.  We are saved by the grace of God, His Gift to us, we cannot enter Heaven just by the works we do. Ephesians 2:8-10 tells us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. “Then in 1 Peter 4:10 says,” As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

In closing, have you stopped using the gifts from God? Just like our kids did a few weeks after Christmas. If so, maybe it is time to take a closer look at our relationship with God. It’s time to start re-using our gifts. Maybe you have lost your close relationship with God or maybe never had a relationship, please Pray and ask God for His help.

Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and arose from the grave. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and in Romans 10:9 tells us, that “if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
