Is Hell Real?

Have you ever had someone tell you that they do not believe that there is a Hell?  Maybe they made a statement such as, “How can a loving God send anyone to hell?” I have even heard a remark, “Well, at least I’ll be with my friends.” This week I would like to talk a little about Hell. So, what is Hell and is it real?

We all have seen the cute little devil with is pitchfork in cartoons, on products and in commercials. There are school mascots and sports teams named after the devil.  So really, the devil and hell can’t be that bad. This is nothing more than one of Satan’s deception. You don’t see any suffering, pain and darkness.

Even among the professing Christian, according to Pew Research, 73% believe there is a heaven and 62% believe that there is a Hell. Looking at this research, I wonder about the 27% of the professing Christain that don’t believe in Heaven. So, even professing Christians, 38% does not believe there is a Hell.

Let’s take a closer look… much of what we know about hell comes from the mouth of Jesus. In fact, Jesus said more about hell than did any other biblical figure. Our understanding of hell ultimately derives from Him.

In the Bible, hell is described as a place of eternal punishment, characterized by torment, darkness, separation from God, and destruction. “Don’t fear those who kill the body,” Jesus said, “rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell”. Mat 10:28

We see a worldly view of hell where Satan is tormenting the people. Hell was created for Satan and his demon and all who follow them. Hell is not a place where people are tormented by the devil; it is where those who reject God will suffer the same fate as the devil and his demons. It is the place of final judgment.

To answer the question, why does a loving god send people to hell?  God doesn’t send anyone to hell. Our God gives each one of us a choice. We can choose to spend eternity with God in Heaven, or we can choose to spend eternity in hell, a place of eternal punishment and separation from God.

Here’s your choice. Spend eternity with God in heaven or refuse it by doing nothing. By doing nothing you have made your choice to follow Satan and His demons to Hell. Remember… God doesn’t send you there, it’s your choice to go there.

The consequence for our choice is found in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We all have sin and are sinners.

In closing, none of us is guaranteed another hour on earth. Are you ready for death? Have your sins been Pardon or forgiven? We will answer to God for everything we have done on this earth. Some will be pardoned, and their transgressions forgiven, and others will pay the consequences for the choices we made in our life for eternity.

So, here’s the Final Question, how’s your relationship with God? Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him. Remember, none of us is guaranteed another second on this earth.

Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
