Our Walk…

As we welcome the month of October and some nice cool fall weather, I would like to take a little time and talk about our walk with God. When we gave our lives to God, we found a partner in this life. We found someone to guide and lead us and help along the path of life. He is also preparing us for the transition into our eternal life. Colossians 2:6 says, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him” Notice it says walk IN Him.

Today, I would like to take a look at our walk with God. So, what does it mean to “Walk with God?” In Genesis 3:8 we find God had a relationship with Adam and Eve and God liked “walking in the garden in the cool of the day” with them. God created man for His enjoyment.  God has a walking relationship with man… that involves companionship, dialogue, intimacy, joint decision-making, obedience, mutual delight and joy. Enoch was the first man to uncover the true delight of walking with God. In Genesis 5:23-24 says, “So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”  Interesting that Enoch did not die, but God took him because of his walk with Him.

If you go on a walk with your friend, what do you do during your walk? Besides the obvious, walking, you are having a conversation, sharing things that are on your mind, and listening to your friends’ thoughts. As your walk, you both stay focused on what each other is saying and do not get distracted. You are having fellowship with that person.

Walking with God can be understood as choosing to walk in harmony, to walk in step, and to walk with purpose. Let’s look at each of these three ways.

First… – choosing to walk in harmony with God. Walking in harmony is to walk in agreement with God. We need to be in harmony with God. How do we do that? We need to talk to Him… by Prayer. We need to listen for His small voice that He will speak to us with… Read the Bible. Then agreeing to and living his word. As we walk with him, he will open the Scriptures to us through the Holy Spirit. He will reveal to us Gods truths, and revelations, and we will receive His wisdom.

Second… – to walk in step with God. Walking in step with God is about walking in God’s timing. As we walk with God it’s important that we walk beside God, that is not in front or behind him. If we walk behind Him, everything we’re doing is out of time with God’s plan. They will have lesser outcome then if we did it in God’s Timing. Then on the other hand, if we get ahead of God and try to accomplish things without Him… the results will not be the same. God’s timing is so important that we need to make sure that we walk next to God. Then God will walk with us hand-in-hand.

Third… – to walk with purpose. Walking in purpose is walking in the direction of Heaven, focused on our promised home. It is walking away from the world and walking toward God. Walking with God is a way of life, and it is our choice. We can walk in God’s ways or the ways of the world, but we cannot do both. In Matthew 6:24 we find this, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.

My question to you is, “Are you walking with God?” Or are you walking with Satan? It doesn’t matter how much you attend church, the money you give or the things you do. The only thing that matters is your relationship with Jesus. How is your relationship with God? Are you walking with God? Or maybe you are not in time with Him. Our time on earth is short! We all are standing at the door to eternity.

The Lord has given you the greatest gift of all… Eternal Salvation! There is no better time than the present to renew your faith. Just take a moment now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior.

If you’ve never walked with God, Now’s the time to ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart.  In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
