I was talking to some friends this week about our current situation with the Covid 19 (Corona) virus. They all were saying that they were looking forward to things getting back to normal. I think I can speak for everyone… we all want to get back to normal.
I started thinking about what is normal. Can we ever get back to where we were just a couple a months ago? The answer is No… I don’t think we can ever return to that place. There will be some things that return to near normal… Like our Churches, hospitals, super markets, restaurants, schools, travel and work. But I feel there will be some small changes even in these. Super markets may keep some limits on buying. When traveling on an airplane, train, or bus you might need your temperature taken before boarding. We might need to wear a mask in public areas or at work. Yes there will be changes in our lifestyle.
We may even find changes in the way we Worship. But there are things that will never change. That is God and his word. Our God is the same today as he was before this virus. The same God before time even started. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” So the world may be a changed place but God is the same.
What does the Bible say about change? In Isaiah 43:18-19 says “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” God is telling us to forget the things of the past. God is bringing us new things that we do not know of. Wow what a promise!
The World is changing. My friend, Are you changing? Yes our life has changed, but have you been changed by God? In 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us,“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Back to my question, Have you been changed? Take a look at your life and if you are still doing the same things of your worldly past… you need to be changed. As scripture says “All things become new”. Are you new?
The good news is there is still time to do this. There is no better time than the present. It’s easy and totally free. In 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Take a moment right now and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and make you new. When we do this, all the worldly things will fade away from our life. We now are in God’s adopted family.
