Goliath…

Magnificent Promises

This week, I would like to talk a little bit about the war between Russia and Ukraine. It was thought this war would only last a few days or at the most a week or two.  But this small, under powered and under man army of Ukraine is stopping the invasion of the giant Russia. In fact, not only have they stopped Russia, but are also taking back its territory.

We need to stop and think about this for a moment. God must be helping to hold back evil in this war. The news is reporting numerous war crimes by Russian soldiers. Such evil as the innocent civilians, children, women and elderly being tortured, raped and killed. Please pray for Ukraine, Ask God to hold back the Evil.

As I was thinking about this war, the scriptures about David and Goliath came to mind.  How this small country like David is fighting this Giant like Goliath.

Let’s review a story most of us know.  In 1 Samuel Chapter 17, we find the story of David and Goliath.  Goliath was a giant standing over 9 feet high, he wore a bronze helmet, a two-hundred-pound coat of mail, bronze leggings, and carried a bronze javelin several inches thick, tipped with a twenty-five-pound iron spearhead.  He was very large and very strong.

In comparison, David was a small young Shepherd, with no fighting or military training.  David was a true underdog.  The odds of him winning a fight with Goliath was zero.

Goliath issued a challenge to the army of Israel to fight until the death and the losing country to serve the winner.  When they saw David, he was contemptuous of him; for he was only a youth, and reddish, with a handsome appearance. He wasn’t the expected warrior.

As the battle started, David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead.  And the stone had penetrated Goliath’s forehead, and he fell dead on to the ground.  David, with God’s help, was able to win the battle.

In closing, like Ukraine, we all face a Goliath from time to time.  There are situations in our life that seem impossible. And my friend, they are impossible without God. Jesus told us in Matthew 19:26, But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Notice the little word “All”.

So, here’s my question to you… What or who is your Goliath.  We all face some Goliath’s in our lifetime.  Without God in your life, your Goliath will overpower and defeat you. But the good news is God is here to help you!  Romans 8:31 tells us, “What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who can be against us”

If you want help with your Goliath, it’s time to take it to the Lord.  To do that you need a personal relationship with God. So, how’s your relationship with God? Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him.

Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
