Instructions…

Magnificent Promises

A couple of weeks ago, I took a trip to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area of Tennessee.  My family had rented a cabin in the mountains for a few days. This cabin had some of the latest convenience, such as internet and TV.

As we settled in and made ourselves comfortable, I turned on the TV and learned it was a smart television.  Well, I haven’t had any experience using a smart television, but after all it’s just a TV, and I’m pretty good at figuring most things out. This shouldn’t be any problem at all.

After a couple of hours, it’s just amazing how dumb you feel when you cannot even find a local TV station you wanted to watch.  It had hundreds of online Aps and channels, but I was unable to find what I wanted.  There were no instructions on how to use it.  I finally ask some of the younger generation for help. A couple of minutes later, I was watching my show.

As I reflected on this, I thought about how many times we don’t read or ask for instructions.  Right now, I have an I phone that I just use the basic commands because I never read the instructions. I know I could do a whole lot more with it. I think most of us would admit that the instructions are our last resort. If all other things fail, read the instructions.

I then thought about how much more we would get out of life and the things we have, if we only read and follow the instructions. After all the person that invented the item should know a lot more than we do.

What about our Spiritual lives? How many people just try to figure it out. We go to church on Sunday, give our money, try to do good to others, and maybe even help in church events.  We think we are doing the right things… but are we really sure? In Matthew 7:21 Jesus tells us, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”

Think about that! Even though you have cast out demon, prophesied, and done wonders or miracles you still will not get into Heaven.  This sounds to me that someone is trying to figure it out and haven’t read the instructions.  My friend no matter what we do (our Works) here on earth can’t get us into Heaven. We cannot work our way to Heaven.  Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”  The key to going to Heaven is, “Saved through faith!

God has given us an instruction book. It has all we need to know on how to live this life on earth and to be welcome to Heaven when that day comes. This instruction book is called the Bible. God uses His Word, the Bible to teach, guide and prepare us for Heaven. But you have to read it and follow the instructions.

So, here’s my question to you.  Are you reading God’s Instructions? Is God talking and guiding you as you read the Bible?  If not… how is your relationship with the Lord?

In closing, none of us is guaranteed another hour on earth. Do you have a good relationship with God? Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him. Remember, none of us is guaranteed another second on this earth.

Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
