LUKEWARM…

Magnificent Promises

Today I would like to talk about the concept of being a lukewarm Christian. We all struggle with our commitment to Christ from time to time. When everything is going wrong or even when everything is going great in your life we can start to tune God out.

The Dictionary defines lukewarm as “lacking conviction or enthusiasm; indifferent.” Sometimes we find ourselves just going through the motions. But going through the motion without any convictions or enthusiasm would make you lukewarm. It’s kind of like doing your chores when you were a kid, you did them… but only because you were afraid of the consequences of not doing them. Like being a Christian… You go through the motions becuase you do not want to end up in Hell.  After being a Christian for a while, it can become very easy to become mundane. We say our prayers without any conviction, go to church and don’t really listen, and are not excited about God’s plan for us.

The Bible warns us about being lukewarm. In a letter to the church of Laodicea it says… “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16).

Have you become Lukewarm? Have you lost the excitement and drive you once had for the Lord? In Isaiah 29:13 We find this from the Lord… “The Lord says:“These people come near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.”(NIV)  How is your relationship with the Lord?  Are you just going through the motions?

Remember that at judgement day there will be many left outside the door. In Matthew 7:21-23 says “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.”(NASB)

We all need to be renewed from time to time. Please don’t be a Lukewarm Christian. If you need to renew your commitment to God why don’t you take a moment right now and pray for a revival of your heart… And make a new commitment with the Lord. May God bless you!
