Your Personal Scapegoat…

Magnificent Promises

Today I’d like to spend a little time talking about escaping death. We’re not talking about a physical death, but we’re talking about your spiritual death. Since the original sin was committed by Adam and Eve, we have had a sentence of death on the human race. God’s requirement is that we live a sinless life. This is an impossible task for us humans to accomplish. Only one has lived a sinless life and that was the son of God Jesus Christ. But in God’s wisdom he has given us a way to escape spiritual death.

In Leviticus God gave the Jewish people and a scapegoat so that you can have forgiveness of sin. In Leviticus 16:8-10 we find “And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat.  And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord’s lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.” In this passage we see that one goat was sacrificed for a sin offering and the other one was presented to God and would be set free into the wilderness. This was an escape goat for the Jewish people.

What is your scapegoat today? Some people use  money, drugs, sex, gambling or alcohol for an escape goat just to name a few. My friend, all of these are temporary fixes, but there is one scapegoat that is permanent. God has given us a perfect escape goat to save us from eternal death. That scapegoat is Jesus Christ. He was our perfect sacrificed on the cross for our sins.

So again I ask, what or who is your scapegoat? There is only one way to escape an eternal death and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ. If you’re not sure about your eternal salvation, why don’t you take a moment right now and ask Christ to come into your life and to forgive you of your sins. In 1 John 1 9 it says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Please take advantage of your scapegoat and receive the promise of eternal life. I pray that God will bless you!
