Mass Shootings….

Magnificent Promises

This week, as our hearts and prayers go out to the victims’ families of the tragic shooting in Uvalde Texas, where a lone gunman took the lives of 19 children, 2 teachers, and a grandmother. This raises a lot of questions.

I think all of us have ask ourselves questions like, why did the shooter do this, what can be done to stop this sort of thing, and where was God when this happened?  Each day more and more information is revealed about what happened, more about the shooter, and police response to this shootings.  I’m sure there’s a lot more information to come as everything is looked at and analyzed.  Let’s take a closer look at some of these questions.

Why did the shooter do this?  We may never know exactly why he did this, but let’s look at some of the contributing factors… he was from a broken home and there was no male figure to look to. Did you know the majority of mass shooters comes from a fatherless home?  A child needs someone to look up to for proper development.  Believe me when I say… your child is a copy of your character. You are being watched all the time and copied.  There are other factors such as the argument with his grandmother, problems with his mother and peers, and things like music, video games and TV that promote violence.

What can be done to stop this sort of thing?  Some of the solutions being offered is Gun Control, background checks to buy a gun, more security at our schools, and putting more guns in our schools in the hands of police and teachers.  On April 20th, 1999, the Columbine High School was attacked by two 12th grade students with guns and bombs killing 13.  Then in 2017 at Virginia Tech a shooter killed 32, and again in 2012 at Sandy Hook School a shooter killed 26.

For the last 23 years, our government as passed laws to stop these mass shootings.  Some cities, like Chicago, have the strictest gun control laws in our country. Just this weekend, in Chicago, there were 30 people shot and 5 died from their wounds.  Apparently, all of these laws do NOT work.  No matter how many laws are passed it will not help.  You cannot pass enough laws to stop evil.

Finally, where was God when this happened or why did God allow this to happen?  I think this is a question that has cross many of our minds from time to time.  Why does God allow tragedies to happen? First of all, it is impossible to understand God’s plan or will for this earth.  Second, Satan is the evil behind this shooting.  Why God allowed this to happen brings to mind in the Old Testament a man name Job.  In the book of Job, God allow Satan to take away everything Job had including family, wealth, friends, and then allowed Satan to attack his health with sores and boils. Job asked why?  We do not know why God allows things to happen to us, but rest assured He is still in control.

So, here’s my thoughts to stop these mass shootings. First, we need to put God Back in our life’s and our families.  We need strong parents teaching our children right from wrong and holding our children accountable for their actions.  Today’s kids are more undisciplined, selfish, and greedy than ever before. Psalm 122:6 tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  Our children will do everything possible to meet the goals you set for them, so set them high.

Next, we need to put God back into the places that we have kicked Him out of.  Like our schools, courts, and homes. Today, we are not allowed to pray, we’ve taken down The 10 Commandments from public buildings, and are discourage from using God or Jesus’ name in public places, just to mention a few. The same people that has thrown God out of these places, then askes where is He when things go bad.

In closing, last week 19 children, 2 teachers, and a grandmother started their day not knowing it would be the last day of their life on earth.  I’m sure the teachers and students were excited about school year ending and the summer break starting. They had made plans for the summer but their whole world changed in a few minutes.

My friend, none of us know when our final day will come. There is no way to stop or prolong it.  The only thing you can do is prepare for where we will spend eternity.  Remember, none of us is guaranteed another hour on earth and we need to be ready for the next life.  Your choice, Be with God or with Satan forever!

Are you ready to meet God? You need a relationship with Him.  How’s your relationship with God? Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him.

Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Please pray for the families that lost love ones last week. May God comfort and give them peace. R.I.P.
