With the War going on with Russia and Ukraine, I would like to talk about Warfare. Every day we see news reports on the tragedies of this war. The innocent people, children, mother, elderly and more, being killed by missiles and the Russian soldiers. But the war I want to talk about is the one that been going on for over 2000 years. That’s a Spiritual War.
As Christians we fight battles everyday with our enemy, the devil. As we try to live for God, Satan does everything in his power to destroy us. In 1 Peter 5:8 it says, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” In other words, the Devil is just waiting for the right moment to attack you. We find in Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Question – Are you ready to go to War? Have you prepared yourself? If you were going to fight a war, you wouldn’t walk in without preparing for it. Maybe some offensive weapons and some defensive weapons would be a great benefit. So, we need to prepare for battle. Have you prepared for a spiritual Battle? In Ephesian 6:10-11 Paul tells us to, “ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
Also in Ephesian 6:13 we find, “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.” The key word is to take up the FULL Armor. We all the armor to be effective in defeating our enemy the devil. Also in the same verse it says, ”having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, Continuing on in Ephesian 6:15 – 17, “and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
The Armor of God…
Truth – The truth is what holds every piece of the armor together is the Bible. Having the moral courage to stand up for what is right.
Righteousness – The breastplate which protects out most vital and vulnerable places of our body. We need an upright heart, morally erect, having the righteous of principles and conduct.
Faith – The Shield covering most of the body. It’s the Christians Faith we stand and believe on. Also, personal faith in Christ to save and deliver and protect you from the evil flaming arrows Stan shoot at us.
Knowledge – The Helmet of Salvation protects the head. It keeps us from believing the enemy’s lies. It also keeps our salvation in the forefront of our mind.
The Word – The sword of the spirit is the word of God. The only effective weapon against Satan is the truth of the Bible. We need to know the scriptures.
Peace – This is shoes that prepare you to face the enemy with firm and stable footing that comes from the gospel (Bible).
One of the most important things in Spiritual warfare is communication. Today when our military attacks an enemy, some of the first targets is communication. This is also true for our spiritual enemy, the devil. The first thing Satan wants to do, is to stop our communication with God. When we can’t communicate with God, to get direction or help, this makes Satan’s job a whole lot easier. In Ephesian 6:15 Paul says, “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints”
In conclusion, Let’s be prepared to go to war with Satan. Remember this is a war, and even if we lose a battle Christ will lift us up. Let me ask you this… Are you ready for war? Are you winning the war or losing it? You can not win the war without help. Satan is way to powerful for you alone.
In closing, none of us is guaranteed another hour on earth. If you want to be sure you will win the war, you need a relationship with God.
So, here’s the Final Question, how’s your relationship with God? Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him. Remember, none of us is guaranteed another second on this earth.
Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I may lose a few battles, but with God on my side, I know I will win the war!
