Today I would like to take a look at some of the coronavirus (COVID 19) effects on our lives. It has been just over a week since our lives have changed drastically. Some of our cities and states are in total lockdown. Restaurants, movie theaters, Churches and most public places are all closed. We are told to stay at home for our own and others protection. There’s more and more people affected by this deadly virus everyday.
The effects of the COVID 19 virus are extreme. People are panicking and scared! People are worried about food, toilet paper, their job, money, and many more things. Then we add onto that the closing of Church’s, of our schools and shortages of supplies at our stores. In a movie it would sound like this could be the end of the world. But we are living it now.
All these terrible things are happening to our world at this moment. But have you thought there may be some good that comes out of this virus. In Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” The Bible didn’t say somethings work for good… But said “ALL things work together for good.” So what good has this virus done? Let’s take a look at a few of these good things. Because of COVID19, we are seeing family units come back together. Seeing parents spending time with their kids. Homeschooling where the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer is allowed. Parents teaching home lessons, such as cooking along with school subjects. Also how about all the lives that are saved because the hospitals put off all elective surgeries. How many abortions did they stop… How many babies did they save? Remember every 30 seconds there is a baby aborted. How about the environmental impact by not driving our cars to work everyday. How much less is the pollution problem because of this. Yes… believe it or not, there is good coming out of this COVID 19 virus.
We need to recognize that God is trying to get our attention. Many times He has tried and we fell to turn to God. We’ve had disasters such as 9/11 and swine flue that were warnings to us to stop doing evil. Now God is trying to get our attention once again. We are making choices to either turn to God or to turn elsewhere. Some of the places I see people looking for help is the Government and our Leaders, Supermarkets and Stores, Hospitals and Doctors. My friend, there’s only one place to get true help… that help is only found in God. No matter what we try to do, or how great we think we are… just remember this, a little microscopic bug has stopped the entire world.
Does God have your attention yet?
God wants our attention. He is warning us that this Earth is going to change forever. The signs is foretold in the scriptures in the Bible. In Matthew 24:7 Jesus tells us, “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” We’re witnessing one of these signs at this moment… This sign is called Pestilence. Pestilence is defined simply as “a fatal epidemic disease.” Many other signs such as earthquakes, tornadoes, wars, drought and famine have and are occurring. Everything is in place for the rapture and Christ to come back.
These signs are a warning for us to be prepared and watch for the second coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:9-10 tells us “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
So here’s my question to you… Does God have your attention? In the verse above it says “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” God wants you to be saved and doesn’t want you to perish. There is no better time than right now to give God your full attention. In 1 John 1:9 we find this, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” What’s amazing about God’s grace, It is a gift from God, it can not be earned, and it’s completely free for the asking. Why don’t you take a moment right now and ask God for the gift of salvation. He’s waiting for you….
So what lies ahead for us Christians? Does God have your attention? As Christians we need to turn back to the fundamentals of Christianity. We need to renew ourselves. We need to open our Bibles, get down on our knees and pray, and we need to submit to the will of God. Let us pray thanking God, trusting in God for all things, not complaining to God about the way things are. May God be with you. God Bless!

Can’t help but notice that there are a lot of silver linings to this whole COVID-19 business. I’m spending more time with my kids, my wife and I are cooking better meals, and the general quality of home life for the whole family is improved right now. My wife and I have also gotten back into our couple’s devotion and are praying together more as well. Perspective is important, now more than ever!
