The End is Near…

Magnificent Promises

This week I was thinking about all that is happening in the world.  There’s the war in Ukraine and the threat of war in Taiwan. Then there are the high prices… It seems everything is going up.  Let us not forget about Covid, it’s still killing people every day.  Wow… what a mess this world is, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any better.

I would like to take a look at what the bible says about this.  I think most Christians believe we are living in the last days and Jesus could come back at any second.  So, let us explore some of the signs that the Bible tells us to watch for in the last days.

When Jesus was asked “…what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age” Matthew 24:3.  Jesus replied, “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…”   Matthew 24:6-7. This is exactly what we are seeing today.  The unprovoked attack of Ukraine by Russia is definitely a war.  So much destruction and death.  At the same time, we are hearing rumors of war between China and Taiwan.

For the last two years we have been dealing with the Covid virus.  There have been over 457 million cases of Covid with over 6 million deaths.  Yesterday another 3500 people died of this virus.  Jesus went on to say in Matthew 24:7-8, “…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of sorrows.” We are told there will be Pestilences or in other word “Plagues” before the end of time.  We are hearing about more earthquakes than ever before. We all know about the famines in the 3rd world countries, but consider this, how close are we to famine in this country.  When was the last time you saw your grocery store fully stocked?  Notice that each one of these are plural… meaning more than one. The last part of this scripture tells us this is just the starting and it is going to get a lot worse.

Gasoline has doubled in price, food prices up 7-10%, and rent and housing cost increases of nearly 50% is the sign of our time.   I would like to share a verse in Revelation 6:6, “And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”  Without getting into great depth, this is a judgment on the earth telling us that a day’s wage will buy a day’s worth of food.  The part about the “Oil and Wine” lets us know that the finer things in life will be available to the wealthy.  The way that the cost of everything is rising, this may not be too far off.  Anyway, something to ponder about.

It really looks like everything in this world is lining up for the coming of the Lord. Jesus tells us to watch and be ready for His return.  In 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 tells us, “For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.”

In closing, are you ready for the return of Christ?  Looking at the signs, Jesus could come back at any time. In the verse above it says, “They shall not escape” If you miss the rapture there is no way to miss the judgements of God.  So, the choice is yours… you can stay unprepared for the Lord’s return or get ready for Him.  It all starts with a relationship.

So, how’s your relationship with God?  Maybe you never had a relationship with Jesus, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him.  Remember, none of us is guaranteed another second on this earth.

Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
