I Promise!

Magnificent Promises

Your promises to God

Questions?

Have you ever made promises to God? Have you kept your promises to God? We tend to bargain with God when you need help.   Lord I’ll do anything if you help me out of this situation.  Does this sound familiar? Can you remember doing this in your lifetime? I’ve done this more than once! In the Bible these are called covenants. God helps you out of the situation and as time goes by we forget about our end of the promise.  Did you keep your end of the bargain? These are some tough questions.

I want to relate observation from a few years back. A young mother recently given birth to twin girls. One of the girls was healthy. The other girl had multiple health problem. The biggest being a heart condition.  For months the doctors kept this child alive in intensive care while doing multiple operations. The mother was asking God to intervene and she promised God to make some changes in her life. With the help of God and Doctor’s the baby became stronger and for the first time was allowed to be taken home. The mother forgot about the promises and commitments to God. After being home for only a few weeks the baby relapsed and was back in the hospital and passed away. Don’t get me wrong, I do not believe that this child was taken because of the broken promises.  But I do believe… maybe the miracle that was started may have not been able to be completed. (Food for Thought)

Do you remember a time that you got in trouble, maybe it was the police or in school, at work or maybe it was your parents. How hard did we pray to God for help to get out of this mess. I will do anything! How often did we try to make that deal so we would not have to have the punishment. Now we made a deal with the Lord, did you keep up your end of the bargain?  It’s easy for us to ask for help when were in trouble. God wants to be a part of all of your life, not the God you turn to when you need help or in times of trouble.

All though the Bible we see covenants made between God and Man.  God has always kept his end of the deal.  But this is not true for the human side of these deals. Many covenants are conditional. Meaning when we make Covenants with God and we don’t keep our end of the bargain bad things happen to us. Just ask Israel.

My main point is…. If you promise God something Do it!  You should not take lightly your words, your promises, or your covenants to God.  God doesn’t take them lightly!

Always remember one of God’s greatest covenants is found in 1 John 1: ” If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
