Be all you can be…

Remember the famous U.S. Army recruiting slogan, “Be All You Can Be”? It first appeared in 1980 and was used successfully for over twenty years, symbolizing limitless personal growth and potential in the Army. But it raises an interesting question—what does God want us to be? Are we all that God wants us to be? This week I would like to look at some of the things that God wants us to be.

Simply put, God wants us to be like Christ. His ultimate goal for believers is to reflect Christ’s character, as stated in Romans 8:29. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…” Being like Christ means living with love, humility, obedience, and truth, showing His example in our everyday lives.

Be a light to others… Be an example of Christ to others. God calls you to live in obedience to His Word and honor Him in everything you do. This means being an active part of your local church, serving others with a full heart, witnessing and sharing your faith in Christ. By following His guidance, we can truly become the people He created us to be.

As humans, we often struggle to figure out our purpose in life. We wonder what our calling is and how we’re meant to spend our time here. The truth is, our purpose is already set by God, and all we need to do is follow His will and become who He wants us to be.

The Bible teaches us that God has a plan for each one of us, a plan for our growth and a plan for our lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse reassures us that His plan is good, and we can trust Him to lead us toward it.

It’s important to remember that growth is a key part of God’s plan for us. We can’t just stay the same; we should keep working toward becoming better versions of ourselves. This growth can take many forms, whether it’s spiritual, emotional, or physical. Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” This transformation can only happen when we are willing to submit to God and allow Him to work in our lives.

To become who God wants us to be, we need to be willing to follow His will. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” This verse reminds us that we must actively resist the temptation to follow our own desires and submit ourselves to God’s will. This is not always easy, and can be very challenging at times, but it’s worth remembering that His plan is always for our ultimate good.

In closing, being what God wants us to be requires us to trust in His plan for our lives, to commit ourselves to growth, and to submit ourselves to His will. We can find comfort in knowing that God has a good plan for us, and that He will guide us towards that plan as long as we are willing to follow Him. As we continue on our journey, we can find strength in the words of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.

Are you everything God wants you to be? It all begins with a relationship with Him, and there’s no better time than now. Just take a moment to pray—tell God you believe His Son, Jesus, paid for your sins and rose from the grave. Let Him know you’re sorry and want to live for Him. Ask for forgiveness for your sins and mistakes. He will grant you eternal life with Him and fill your heart with His Spirit, dwelling deep within you. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and Romans 10:9 tells us, ”that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

May God Bless you.
