Sign of the times – The Killing Fields…

It seems like every day we hear about someone being killed.  I heard on the news the other day that 341 people in the gun free city of Chicago have been killed so far this year (6 Months). Think about it, that’s almost 2 people a day that are killed. Over 1,000 people have been shot in the first 6 months.  Apparently, the laws banning guns do not work. That’s just one city.

Then there’s the mass shootings. It seems this is becoming a normal event every month.  A 21-year-old male walks into the store and starts shooting people… 22 Killed and 27 injured. (Wal-Mart 8/3/19). The shooting at Uvalde, Tx school where 19 children & 2 adults were killed. Remember the July 4th parade shootings where 6 were killed and 30 injured in Highland Park, Ill.  These are just a few of the many shootings that are happening every week.

No matter how many laws are passed, this will continue until the shooters’ hearts are changed. Do you really think a shooter is going to obey another law… Our government seems to think that’s the answer to the problem. Then there’s the weather: hurricanes, tornados, floods, earthquakes, and other natural phenomenon kill many people every day.

I have to stop and think about all those people who died… were they really prepared to die that day? The fact is there are about 150k deaths each day. I don’t think many of them made plans to die. I think most of us would say, we are not ready for that moment of death. Think about never having a chance to say to a family member, I love you one more time. Or maybe to say I’m sorry.  The fact is, we will all die, and most will not know when or even how it will happen. Anyone of those victims could have been one of us.

Another thing to think about is those who died will all have to stand in front of God and be accountable for All the things they did in this world. In Hebrews 9:27 it says, “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,” and in Matthew 12:36 we find this “But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.” My friend, your death and mine are coming, and then Judgement Day will happen. We need to prepare for that day.

My question is this… are you ready? You may never be in a shooting like these, but in the blink of an eye, your life can be over. Just think about how many close calls with death you have had. Maybe driving your car or at work or even an illness! Every day we hear about someone dropping dead from a heart attack or dying while driving to work. Again… Are you ready?

In closing… Are you prepared for death? Are you ready to stand in front of God and be judged? Today you can take the steps to be ready. Mark 1:15 says “And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”  Take the time now, before it’s too late, and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your heart.

Have you prepared for your death? Maybe you are not prepared and have never had a relationship with God. Or maybe you had a good relationship with God but have lost that initial relationship you once had. If this sounds like you, there’s no better time to get or re-new a relationship with God.

Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, it’s time to make it right. It’s time to pray. Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Don’t wait, remember those who died yesterday had plans for today!

I pray that God will truly Help and Bless you. If you would like for me to pray with you, please email me at Bob.L@magnificentPromises.com. May God Bless and Keep!
