As a man was passing by an elephant, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that this huge creature was contained by only a small rope tied to his leg. There were no chains or cages. It would seem that the elephant could, at anytime, easily break away from this rope but for some reason, didn’t.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why the elephant just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” the trainer said, “When they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away.
They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free. “The man was amazed. This elephant could at any time break free from its bonds; but because it believed it couldn’t, it was stuck to that staked rope.
Like this elephant, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life. The Lord knows that and consequently inspires us again and again through His life-giving Word to press forward and live out our lives in Him, as a light to this world!
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 1:6 (NLT) “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day whenChrist Jesus returns.
Final question…Is there a small rope around your leg? Is there something keeping you from doing God’s will? We need to break the bonds of this world and live a life for our creator. We need to start living and acting like Christians. We need to make God the most important thing in our lives. The only way that is going to happen is with a personal relationship with God.
So how is your relationship? Maybe you have never had a relationship with God or maybe it’s not as good as it should be. Please take the time right now to get a personal relationship with Him. After all, tomorrow may be too late.
Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins on the cross and then raised Him from the dead. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and in Romans 10:9 tells us. ”that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;“
