Why doesn’t God answer my prayer?

Have you ever heard someone say, “Why doesn’t God answer my prayer?” “Why does he let me continue to suffer like this?” “I don’t understand… where is God when I need him?” I think we’ve all heard them from time to time and most of us, if we are honest, even have asked those questions to ourselves. Have you ever thought about why God didn’t answer your prayer? What could be the possible reasons?
There are many possibilities why God does not answer your prayer. Matthew 21:22 says, “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” The key word in this verse is Believing. I think we all find it easier to believe God will answer our prayer if it’s concerning something small. But when we ask God for something that seems impossible… We tend to doubt it will really happen. Luke 18:27 says, “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” There’s not the same level of belief on the small things as the large things. Why do we think that God, the Creator of all things, might have a little trouble with what seems to be impossible?
Matthew 17:20 tells us “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Each and every one of us has a seemingly impossible mountain or problem in their life from time to time. There’s been times in my life these mountains seemed impossible to cross. I could not find any human way over it, around it, or under it. All seemed hopeless until I let go and let God have control of it. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” In other words, we need to take it to God because He cares for us. When we do that, He will give us rest or we will be at peace with it. Jesus told us in Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
If you have a personal relationship with God, Rest assured that God hears all of your prayers. There’s a song by Garth Brooks titled “Thank God for Unanswered Prayers.” In the song a man prayed hard to make his high school flame his wife. They met many years later and she was not the Angel he thought she would be. He thanked God for his life and family he has now. God heard the prayer and as the song says, “Some of God’s greatest gifts are all too often unanswered Prayers”. Sometimes God might say No because it is not in your best interest.
Let’s look at one more thing that might cause our prayers not to be answered. What is motivating this prayer? James 4:3 “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” NIV. What is the reason for your prayer? Is it for a selfish want? Is it for a self-need? Is it for yours or someone else’s benefit? When we pray with the wrong motivation our prayers will not be answered. Are we praying for our will to be done or God’s will to be done? I think some people think of God as our personal Santa Claus. God is there to serve our needs. But the reality is we are his servants.
Finally, I would like to say, if God is not answering your prayers, it’s time to look at yourself. How is your relationship with the Lord? He Knows your heart! If you want to move those mountains and have happiness, Ask Jesus into your heart and let him have control of your life. If you don’t have a personal relationship with Christ, why not, right now, ask Jesus into your heart.
If you haven’t received answers for your prayers, maybe its’s time we look at your relationship with God. How’s your relationship with Him? Maybe you have never had a relationship with God, or maybe you had one and it’s slowly faded away over the years. My Friend, now’s the time to get a relationship or renew your relationship with God. God wants to help you, and He is waiting on you to ask. He’s only a prayer away!
Please take a moment now, dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Our Father in Heaven will listen to and answer your prayers. Philippians 4:6 tells us, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;” My prayer is that God will truly Help and Bless you.
