The rain poured steadily against the windows of the small café where four longtime friends met every Thursday evening. David, a construction foreman, stared silently into his untouched coffee. Across from him sat his wife, Patricia, her face showing months of worry. Their pastor, Brother James, had stopped by after visiting church members, and their friend Mike arrived straight from work, still wearing his mechanic’s uniform.
“Things can’t get much worse,” David sighed. “The company cut my hours again. The mortgage is behind, the truck needs repairs, and Patricia and I have been arguing about everything.”
Patricia lowered her eyes. “We’ve prayed, but I feel like God isn’t listening.”
Mike nodded. “I know that feeling. I’ve been working overtime, but I’m still drowning in debt. My marriage is hanging by a thread because I’m never home.”
Pastor James quietly opened his Bible.
“My friends,” he said gently, “sometimes we pray, but we never truly surrender. We keep carrying burdens that belong to God.” He read aloud, ‘Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.’ 1 Peter 5:7.
David shook his head. “I know that verse, Pastor. But it’s easier to read than to live.”
Brother James smiled. “You’re right. Giving it to God isn’t pretending the problems don’t exist. It’s trusting Him enough to stop trying to carry them alone.”
The following Sunday, the church service seemed directed straight at David and Patricia. Pastor James preached from Proverbs. ‘Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.’ – Proverbs 3:5–6
As the invitation hymn played, David realized he had trusted his paycheck more than God’s promises. He knelt at the altar. “Lord,” he whispered, “I’m tired of trying to fix everything myself. I’m giving it to You, today.”
Patricia knelt beside him, tears flowing freely.”Please heal our marriage. Help me trust You instead of my fears.”
Mike watched from his pew. Although he attended church with his wife, he had never personally accepted Christ. Convicted, he walked forward. “Pastor,” he said quietly, “I’ve been religious all my life, but I don’t know Jesus personally.”
Pastor James smiled warmly. “The greatest burden anyone carries is sin.” He opened his Bible again. ‘For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.‘ – Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Then he continued, ‘But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’ — Romans 5:8
Mike’s eyes filled with tears. “What must I do?” Pastor James pointed to another verse. ‘That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.’ – Romans 10:9
That morning, Mike placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Weeks passed. None of the friends became wealthy overnight. David still worked reduced hours. Mike still had bills to pay. Patricia still faced anxious moments.
But something had changed. Instead of arguing every evening, David and Patricia prayed together. Instead of worrying constantly, they thanked God daily for His provision.
One afternoon David received an unexpected phone call. Another construction company needed an experienced foreman immediately. The new position offered better hours and better pay than he had before. David smiled. I guess God had another plan.”
Mike also began seeing changes. His attitude at work improved, and instead of chasing endless overtime, he made time for his wife and attended Wednesday night Bible study. Their relationship slowly began to heal.
One Wednesday evening, Pastor James asked David to share a testimony. David stood before the congregation. “I thought giving it to God meant giving Him my problems so He would immediately solve them. I was wrong. Giving it to God means trusting Him whether He changes the situation today, tomorrow, or not until heaven.”
The congregation nodded quietly. Pastor James concluded the service by reading one final passage. ‘Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.‘ – Philippians 4:6–7
As everyone bowed in prayer, David looked around the sanctuary. Some families struggled with money. Others battled sickness, broken relationships, uncertainty at work, or heavy hearts burdened by sin.
Their circumstances were different, but the answer remained the same. Bring every burden to Jesus. Trust Him completely.
Does this sound like your life? Life will always bring troubles, but those who place their faith in Christ never have to carry them alone. God promised that He would never leave or forsake us, and we can rely on Him for help in our times of need. All we have to is “Give it to God.“
There’s no better time than now to start living as if it were your last day on earth. All you need is to take a moment to pray… Tell God you believe His Son, Jesus, paid for your sins and rose from the grave. Let Him know you’re sorry and want to live for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes, give you everlasting life with Him, and place His Spirit deep within your heart. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and Romans 10:9 tells us, ”that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;“
May God Bless you. Bob
