This week I would like to talk a little bit about adoption. In today’s world, there are many children around the world that need a home. Our heart strings are often pulled when we see the homeless and starving children of 3rd World Nations. Even our celebrities are adopting children from other countries. You could say it’s kind of an “in” thing to do for the Rich and Famous.
But I would like to touch base on a different kind of adoption. The adoption I’m talking about is the adoption into the family of God. The adoption into the family of God is a spiritual one. When you ask for forgiveness, you become adopted into the family of Christ. In Ephesians 1:5 says, “He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.”
Have you ever thought about what spiritual adoption means? God has adopted us as his son or daughter. We are a member of God’s family. Galatians 4:6-7 says, “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
Something to think about. You are a son or daughter of the King! You have the benefits of being a child of and heir to God.
First – Your brother is Jesus. Matthew 12:50, – “For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”
Second – We are an Heir to God. – Romans 16-17, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
Third – Adopted forever – Have you ever heard of anyone being un-adopted? Yes life is tough and we may have our failures, But we have the promise that God will never leave us. Hebrews 13:5 – “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
In closing… Have you been adopted? Are you a part of God’s family? You are either in Satan’s family or in God’s family. There is no in between. What inheritance will be yours? Will it be God and Heaven or Satan and Hell?
Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and arose from the grave. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and in Romans 10:9 tells us,”that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;“
