How Big is your God?

Have you ever thought about “How Big your God is”?  After all He created the sun, galaxies and the universe. In this world, you can see God in nature, also the mountains, valleys and seas. Let’s not forget the animals God created and their beauty is amazing.

Next, think about the humans created by God.  How amazing the body is and the wonderful way it works. When you stop and really think about all the things our God has made… it will just blow your mind. So, How Big is your God? Let’s look at an example from the Bible.

Have you ever thought about the Israelites leaving Egypt and the logistics involved. Put yourself in Moses shoes… If God asked you to lead 3-1/2 million people out of Egypt what would be your thoughts?  Would you try to figure out how to do it and what is needed to accomplish this command?

This is one of the biggest arithmetical miracles in the world. That is, just what was required just to keep everyone alive in the desert.  So, what did Moses do?  Let’s take a look at what would be needed if it would happen today.

When Moses led the people of Israel into the desert, they would need to be fed.        Feeding 3-1/2 million people requires a lot of food. According to the U. S. Army’s Quartermaster General, Moses would need about 1500 tons (that’s about 3 million pounds) of food a day. That would fill up two freight trains about a mile long. Besides, you must remember, they needed firewood for cooking. (not to mention for keeping warm, and if anyone tells you it doesn’t get cold in the desert don’t believe them!). Just for cooking this took 4000 tons (800,000 pounds) of firewood. Now we need a few more freight trains, each a mile long. Remember this was for one day!!! They were in the desert for forty YEARS!!!

Let’s not forget about water, shall we? If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes (no bathing…better hold your nose), needed 11 million gallons EACH DAY!!! That is enough to fill a train of tanker cars 1800 miles long.

And another thing! They had to get across the red sea in one night. Now if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and require 35 days and nights to complete the crossing. So, to get over in one night there had to be a space in the Red Sea 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5,000 abreast. I guess this might have been the first traffic jam.

Also think about this; every time they camped at the end of the day, a campground the size of Rhode Island was required, or 750 square miles.

Do you think that Moses sat down and figured out the logistics of what God told him to do before he set out from Egypt? I doubt it. He had faith that God would take care of everything. Let us trust and have courage, we have the very same Big God!

We all have heard of the miracles God performed to get the Pharaoh of Egypt to let His people go. We don’t think about all the miracles that happened when they left Egypt. There’re more miracles than the ones mentioned above such as… Did you know none of their shoes were out in 40 years of walking?   Wow, they don’t make shoes like that anymore.

We know our God is Big, but I think we sometimes forget just how Big God is.  How Big is your God?  Are you trusting God in all things? Psalms 37:5 tells us, “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” The only thing that gets in the way of God is us. It’s easier to trust God in the small things that really don’t matter much… But we have a Big God, and He is able to handle all of your needs, even the big ones if you allow Him.  Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”  I think we all need this reminder from time to time.

In Closing, do you trust your Big God in ALL things?  To Trust God with ALL things, you need to have a relationship with Him.  So, how’s your relationship?

Maybe you never had a relationship with God, or maybe you have lost your fellowship with Him. There’s no better time than the present to get a relationship with God or to renew your relationship with Him. Please just take a moment right now and dedicate yourself to Christ Our Savior.

It’s easy and free. All you need to do is ask the Lord to come into your life. Please… if you don’t know Christ or have fallen away, please pray… Tell God you believe His Son Jesus paid for your sins and rose again. Tell God you are sorry and want to start Living for Him. He will forgive your sins and mistakes and give you Everlasting Life with Him… and place His Spirit deep within your heart. In 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  1. […] The first one that comes to mind is, God freed the Hebrew people from the bonds of slavery in Egypt. (Exodus chapters 2 thru 12) Then Moses let some 3 million plus people to the promised land. That was definitely a world changing event. More […]
